Our Main Service (Rite II Service)
10:15 a.m. We break open the sacred scripture to challenge our minds. We break and share the sacramental gift of God to reshape our hearts to be more Christlike.
We celebrate with music. Superb, traditional organ music, such as one rarely finds in these parts. And the choir – well, they are laid back (hiding amongst the congregation), they are well trained, they are sublime and sometimes playful. And most of all, they are dedicated to supporting the whole congregation in our act of worship.
Our worship is eucharistic –– that is Greek for all about thanksgiving. We give thanks for God's greatest gift – God's own personal appearance in Jesus, whom we worship as Lord and Savior. Every Sunday "we remember his death" because it delivers us from sin, "we proclaim his resurrection" because it delivers us from fear of death, and "we await his coming in glory" because it assures us we will not meet tomorrow alone.
Our worship is participatory –– that means it is designed to bring each person into a community act of praise. When you arrive, after getting settled, we will leave you to your own quiet thoughts and prayers. But our hymns and songs of praise invite you to join the congregational voice of thanksgiving. Our messages (okay, sermons) invite you to see yourself connected to God's people in ages past and in week to come. The "Peace of the Lord" is passed amongst the people. In the Holy Communion we are re-membered and reconciled with God and with our neighbors.
Before departing we touch lightly on the activities and concerns of the community. And we "go in peace to love and serve the Lord."
You don't have to go right away, though, do you? Our child care (beginning at 9 a.m.) will cover the little ones if you want to come up to "Coffee Hour" –– refreshments and fellowship. A moment to check in or get acquainted.
"Godly Play" our children’s Sunday School runs concurrently with the first half of this service, both beginning at 10:15. We shepherd the little ones up to the Holy Communion with the rest of the church family.
For the convenience of those who worship at both the early and the late service, we offer adult Sunday School at 9:00 a.m.
